Magento 2: Product Management

Magento 2: Product Management

Hi everyone!

If you still remember recently I promised to tell you about product management in Magento 2. If you not remember or haven’t even seen my previous article, reading this could help you to recall.

So straight to the point!

First of all to manage the products you need to add them. Magento 2 gives you an ability to upload products manually or you can import them from CSV/XML format. You can perform this by going to System -> Import.

Here we need to select entity types to be imported(products in our case) and then set up import behaviour. Please note that from default not all product types can be imported. But this can be improved by installing some 3-rd party modules.

Let’s proceed to manual products adding!

To add new product we need to go Products -> Catalog -> Add Product. There we can find the products adding form where we can input some basic data like Name, Price, add image, input quantity in stock, Weight and Text description.

Here it is:

Filling these basic fields is enough to make your product live. But you may want to make the product description more bright and colorful right? For this goal Magento allows you to upload videos and galleries. Your customer will have more information about your goods and your store will leave a mark in his/her mind because of awesome shopping experience!

You can do it by clicking Images and Videos in menu block at your left.

Popularity is the one of main factors of success and Magento guys understand it. They provided to us SEO fields in for each product where you can input URL key, Meta Title and Meta Description.

If we go down in menu block to Websites we will be able to choose on what websites (if you have few) product must be present.

The most interesting part of product management functionality is hidden in advanced settings. Let’s see what we have there:

As you can see Magento is about marketing too! Here we have Up-Sells, Cross-Sells, Related Products and other settings. But sweet for later - let’s take a closer look at pricing management features and custom options!

So what do we have here?

If you want to sell some kind of product faster you can set up special price. There you can set the time period and price for this period.

You can easily engage your customers to buy more pieces of product at once by setting up Tier Prices. The more they buy the less they pay!

With tier pricing you choose how much your customers would buy!

Most of products can be customizable and Magento gives you an ability to add some options to your products. If you go to Custom Options you will see this:

You can add any options using radio buttons, checkboxes and dropdown menus. Options can put on additional cost to the price. Do not worry about serving orders - on orders page you will see every option as postfix to the main product’s SKU.
I don’t think that I need to tell you what is related products, cross-sells and up-sells - you may know this better than me. I’ll just show you how it implemented in Magento 2:

All that options are similar - we have a list of our products and we can choose some of them to appear at the products page. Everything is simple as never:)
The last features that I want to show you it’s the additional fields for configurable, grouped and bundled products. They’re totally identical so I’ll show it for grouped product for example.

This features are implemented similar to related products - just a list where you can choose what products to add to group.

Aha! I almost forgot that you might be curious about what product would we have after we applied all options!

Take a look:

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? I love that!

As I mentioned before - every product type that exists nowadays can be sold by Magento 2. If you a wholesaler, or retailer, or just selling some handmade goods it doesn’t matter! Magento will help you to outperform your competitors!

Stay tuned and in the next articles I’ll show you how Magento can increase your revenue with it’s marketing features.
